People ask me all the time about how to make exercise fun. Frankly, I don’t think anyone should have to exercise. But, we should play every day!
My daughter, now grown, says that school recess was her favorite “class”! Why, I asked. “You get to play with anyone you want to because your whole grade is out at the very same time – and you don’t have to change your clothes and follow anyone else’s rule! I hate other people telling me what I ‘should’ do.” On the other hand, she detested PE (physical education) – you had to wear a uniform, you didn’t get to choose what exercise you would do, and you had to follow “their” rules.
How to Make Exercise Fun
No wonder people don’t like to exercise. I think they treat their exercise sessions like a PE class. How boring!Instead of exercise, find something that feels a lot like playing. You’ll burn the calories, tone the muscles, and have a good time. Here are some good play suggestions:
- Zumba or aerobic dance class
- Skiing, skating
- Any sport such as tennis, raquetball, or golf
- Dancing – ballroom, latin, or swing (I like to tap dance!)
- Hoola hoop
What fun ways do you “play”?
