At a recent speaking engagement I met a gentleman who shared that he was an alcoholic – and 15 years sober. Knowing so many people who weren’t as successful, I I inquired how he did it.
He replied, “I have given myself permission to have alcohol any time I want.” And, to my befuddled look he added, “But every day I wake up and decide not to have it TODAY…just today. I take it one day at a time and don’t dwell on the rest.”
What an interesting way to look at so many things in life. Maybe there’s a food or drink that you’ve decided that it’s best to avoid…instead of dwelling on how you can’t have it for THE REST OF YOUR LIFE (that’s overwhelming), just take it one day at a time.
