Soda sales are down – so soda companies are branching out. A couple of months ago, Coca Cola came out with a new “designer” milk called Fairlife. For more than twice the price of regular cow’s milk, they broke out the different components of milk and then put them back in different combinations. Is it worth the extra moo-lah? I don’t think so. Heck, that “50% more protein” the label brags works out to be just 5g protein. You can get more than that in a single egg.
To get the calcium and protein we all need for strong bones, regular milk is just fine. If you can’t tolerate the lactose (if the milk sugar causes gas and diarrhea), there’s always LactAid milk. And, if you’re sensitive to dairy protein look at soy milk as an option. It contains just as much protein as cow’s milk. Unfortunately, most of the other “milks” (almond, cashew, hemp, and coconut) have very little protein.
But, for most of us, it boils down to taste, doesn’t it? What milk do you like?
