“You eat french fries?”, she asked. I get that a lot. Just because I am a registered dietitian some people assume that I’m “perfect.” Actually, I think of my eating habits as “perfectly imperfect.” And, if you’ve heard me speak at a conference you know what I’m talking about.
It’s my professional opinion that we should all eat the things we need for a healthy body – lean protein, calcium-rich foods, whole grains, and lots of fruits and veggies. But, we also need to feed our spirit, too. And, that means having some of those very special foods that make us happy. Foods we like to share with others, foods that taste really good to us, foods we celebrate with…The key, I think, is to narrow those foods down to a fairly small list of special foods. In my book, Dr. Jo’s No Big Deal Diet, I call these our “pleaser foods” and suggest we “when eat our pleasers, we can more easily skip our teasers.”
And, so, on Friday (after yoga class…stop laughing!), John and I head to one of our favorite places for fries…on Friday. BTW, we share an order. I’m not THAT crazy!
