Have you seen the new Canada’s Food Guide? I love it’s simplicity – and what great imagery. I mean…why make nutrition more complicated than it has to be, right?
It’s slightly different than 2011 science-based dietary recommendation by the USDA in MyPlate. The US’s MyPlate encourages that we eat roughly one quarter of our plate with each of four categories of foods – protein, grains, fruits, and vegetables – with dairy as our beverage.
Canada’s Food Guide offers just three categories of food. Half the plate is to be filled with fruits and vegetables, along with a quarter plate of both protein and grain. And, Canadians are encourage that “make water your drink of choice.” And, if you’re wondering about dairy…Canada shows dairy in the form of yogurt – in the protein section.
