Just Do Something
Do you make New Year's resolutions?
I never do.
Well, it's not because I don't want to do better, be better.
It's that I believe that January 1st is just another arbitrary day in a non-stop series of days. And, Monday's are no better than any other day to initiate a healthy change.
What gets us into trouble is not our particular downfall (lack of exercise, eating or drinking too much)...but the attitude that we have to continue making those poor decisions until a certain arbitrary date comes around.
Realize that one unhealthy decision on any random day doesn't have to turn into a really bad day, bad week, or time in your life.
I mean, when you turn the wheels of the car a bit too much to the right and hit the curb, do you say to yourself, "Well, I've gone this far...I might as well drive all the way into that ditch over there"??
No, of course not.
Instead, think about making good (they don't have to be perfect) decisions every moment of every day. And, if they turn out to be not-so-good, then plan to do better on the next moment.
Stop believing that you can't eat healthier or move more or sleep better until New Years or Monday or when the kids go back to school or when the pandemic is over or whatever.
Remember that famous Chinese proverb: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step". Or as I always say, "Just Do Something.
