My goal is simple – to help busy people stay healthy, sane, and productive. This is critical because too many people focus on success in their career — at the expense of their health, well-being, and happiness. I inspire the people in my audience to realize that both success and health are possible, without adding more things to their already long to-do list.
As a seasoned health professional (which means I’ve been around), I approach whole body health with a strong knowledge of the science – and an even stronger dose of reality!
Humans, Machines…Everything Runs on Energy
I’m often asked to speak about the science of energy to achieve peak performance. No, this isn’t foo-foo or fluff. Just like machines run on energy, so do humans. We require energy to think creatively, focus, move, be patient and have more motivation and willpower.
I believe having optimal energy is at the center of everything we strive for. Too many people make goals of increasing sales, making more money, improving relationships, losing weight – and then fall short because they just don’t have the physical, emotional, and mental energy to succeed. Without optimal energy, everything is so much more difficult – work, hobbies, relationships, goals…life!
I know what you’re thinking…
“If Jo can jump that high in heels, she must be a natural high-energy person.” Nope! Go ahead and read how I got involved in the health field (below). I didn’t get into this field to help others…it was to save myself. And, now I want to help you help yourself.
Yes, I really do practice what I preach. But, I eat chocolate every single day – because staying healthy, sane, and productive is NOT about being perfect. And, it’s not about deprivation.
In fact, it’s quite the opposite.
Going from Knowing It…to Doing It
Do you know what to do to be healthier – but just can’t do it…at least not consistently? Or forever?
You’re not alone. Too many of us have been sold an unrealistic idea of health that’s unattainable. In my keynotes, breakouts, training programs, and webinars, I share some basic principles for success of life – and health.
One involves dropping perfection as a goal. Because once you have even a tiny slip, it leads to blame, shame, and guilt. I encourage people to stop making excuses, set themselves up for success, and start now. With something small.
My interactive programs offer scientifically proven lifestyle strategies that even the busiest of people can incorporate into their lives. All it takes is a few small shifts in the way we eat, think, move, and sleep. I often refer to these changes as “no big deal changes” because I invite people to make the changes that are the easiest to change – the ones that make people respond, “Oh, that’s ‘no big deal’. I can do that!”
Remember that old Chinese proverb, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”
Corporate Health & Wellness Speaker
I’ve presented more than 1000 programs to a wide variety of groups – associations, corporations, and governmental agencies. I was also a consultant with Johnson & Johnson Human Performance Institute for seven years – working with C-suite executives to help them better manage their health and energy. To each program I bring my education in nutrition, health, and adult education as well as my extensive background in corporate wellness, university teaching, and clinical health. Participants often comment that I’m “energetic, funny, entertaining”…and that my solutions are “realistic, practical, simple.”
Author and Writer
I’ve written six books designed to keep busy people healthy, sane, & productive. I’m always keeping up with the science of nutrition and health. In writing my latest book, Reboot – how to power up your energy, focus, and productivity, I reviewed nearly two thousand medical research studies.
