Oh, chocolate…where art thou? After nearly a week in New Jersey from an extended speaking engagement, I was so ready to be home! Since I typically enjoy a brownie a day (no worries…it’s a small one), I immediately opened the freezer to search for my stash of brownies. And they were gone!! Gone! How would I get through the day?

Oh, wait! I could always make a fresh batch. So, I threw open the cupboards looking for a box of my favorite Ghiradelli Double Chocolate Brownie mix…but none! How could this be? I’m usually so methodical about keeping my shopping list so I never run out of back-ups…ever! Ok, breathe Jo…there must be another option.

I do ocassionally make my own from scratch so I go searching through the cupboards. Darn, I’m out of my dark chocolate cocoa! Oh, but there’s a bit left of the regular cocoa powder. But, no more Ghiradelli dark chocolate chips. How will I survive without chips in my brownies? Wait…what’s this stuffed in the back of my freezer? Nestle mini morsels. I don’t remember these….so I check the date…”best before July 2010″. Does chocolate go bad? I’m desperate for some brownies so I figured I take a chance.

Finally…an hour later there’s peace in the house with fresh brownies. And, yes, I certainly could have gone to the store…but it wouldn’t nearly have been as much fun!
