If you’ve been reading my posts, you know that I switched to a stand-up desk last year. I find that I have fewer neck and back issues of long hours writing. And, it just made sense that I’d burn more calories standing than sitting (and that means I can eat more!).
But, it turns out that fewer hours of sitting might add years to our lives. Read this article from USA Today. If you work from a notebook computer, like I do, you can test out a stand-up desk without a large investment. Start first by placing a sturdy box on your desk – and place your notebook computer on top of that. After using a box for a desk, I then graduated to a firm wooden crate I found at a discount store. Plow & Hearth catalog sold a TV-table that was tall enough to use as a stand-up desk.
