Uncle Sam’s (Higher Protein) Tasty Cereal
From the research I’ve reviewed, getting enough protein in the morning is critical to
keeping your energy up all day long. So, what are your options? Eggs (but who wants to eat them every day?) There is also low fat cheese, milk, cottage cheese, and yogurt (Greek yogurt has twice as much protein as regular yogurt). I’m familiar with the higher protein Kashi cereals – and they’re good. But, here’s another cereal to add to your list – Uncle Sam’s.
I got this sample box of Uncle Sam’s Original cereal in the mail the other day – and was impressed with the simple ingredient list – whole wheat kernels, whole flaxseed, salt, and barley malt). More good news…one serving (3/4 cup) has 10g of fiber (2 of these are healthful soluble fiber) and 7g of protein. And, because of the flaxseed, there’s also heart-healthy omega-e fatty acids. Uncle Sam’s is also sold in strawberry and honey almond flavors.
Ok, so what does Uncle Sam’s Original cereal tastes like? I’ve enjoyed it in milk, mixed with yogurt (for crunch), and mixed with a blend of other cereals. It’s definately a cereal I will buy in the future. It tastes a lot like Wheaties or Total (but way higher in protein than those brands). And it’s also crunchy…without feeling like it will break the crowns on my teeth. Mmmm.
